Diego *

19:11

Diego Olivera glanced at his reflection in the mirror opposite him and saw that his mask was still covering his face. He wasn’t wearing it because it was Halloween but rather because it was a requirement for anybody who wished to be allowed inside this very private and very exclusive event. While the rest of the world waited for this day to come around before they covered themselves in capes and costumes, Diego was no stranger to role play and dress-up. He had already worn this particular mask several times this year and he would hopefully be wearing it at least a couple more times before the year was out. But this wasn’t a cheap, plastic mask that you could find in any fancy-dress shop on the high street. This was a high-end mask that the user only wore when they were attending an event such as this. It was a Venetian Masquerade mask, made from black leather, which covered the top half of his face, only revealing his eyes and his mouth. It was a simple design but Diego preferred it to the other masks on show here, which ranged in colour, material and cost. The important thing was that everybody in here was wearing one, which meant that everybody here was unrecognisable.

With identities concealed, the guests were now free to roam the party and do whatever they desired.

Passing by a sleek black bar covered in cocktail glasses and napkins, Diego made his way through the room towards the doorway that he knew would lead him into the raunchier rooms in the venue. This was only the first room after all, where the customers were able to get themselves a drink to alleviate any nerves, before they went on to experience what they had really come here to do. But Diego didn’t need a drink because he wasn’t nervous. He knew exactly where he was going and what he wanted to do, so he left behind the first-timers in the bar and stepped through the red velvet curtain that took him deeper into the club.

Unlike the atmospheric lighting in the bar, this corridor was dimly lit and only a few faint white bulbs showed the way through here. But Diego marched confidently down the corridor, passing several doorways where several different types of music were playing, until he came to the door at the end. Raising his left hand, which was covered in a red leather glove, Diego knocked three times on the steel door before waiting patiently for it to open. After a moment, the door was unlocked and Diego was face to face with a large shaven-headed man in a black suit and his own mask, a chequered one that looked a little like a chess board.

The man held out his hand and Diego handed him the ticket that he had collected when he had first arrived at the club five minutes earlier. It was his pass into this section of the venue and had cost Diego an extra £750.
